Community Association Fundamentals

Each community has its own history, attributes, and challenges, but all associations share common characteristics and core principles. CAI developed a list of community association fundamentals to foster a better understanding of how associations function and the role of board members and residents.

The principles at the heart of the community association housing model are intended to inspire effective, enlightened leadership and responsible, engaged citizenship. Associations are the most local form of representative democracy, with leaders elected to govern in the best interests of all residents to ensure their collective rights are respected and preserved.
